2008 Ford Mustang Bullitt
Earlier this week Ford announced the 2008 Ford Mustang Bullitt, which it claims “embodies the true spirit” of the original a 1968 Mustang GT driven by Steve McQueen in the 1968 classic car chase movie, ‘Bullitt’. Like Steve McQueen’s version, the 2008 Ford Mustang Bullitt is available in dark highland green with the only other available paint color being black. The dark highland green will also only be used on the Mustang Bullitt, but expect to see it used in some car modification projects.
According to chief designer Doug Gaffka, the 2008 Mustang Bullitt with its clean exterior “is a wolf in sheep’s clothing” and “doesn’t give away the Ford Racing-inspired power and performance lurking under its skin.” So there’s no front spoilers, no rear wing, and no air scoops. There’s also no Mustang badge on the grille!
What there is though, is Ford’s 4.6-liter, 3-valve V8 engine with a cold-air induction system that produces a maximum 315 bhp at 6,000 RPM and a maximum 325 lb-ft. of torque at 4,250 RPM. Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a Tremac 5-speed manual transmission and a live rear axle with a limited slip differential.
A modified chassis and fine-tuned suspension with uprated dampers helps put the 2008 Ford Mustang Bullitt’s horsepower and torque down on the road, while the 3.73:1 limited slip differential helps launch the Bullitt. Up front a tower brace provides extra torsional and lateral stiffness to improve cornering stability.
The 2008 Ford Mustang Bullitt also features a custom-designed dual-exhaust system with all-new mufflers and 3.5-inch chrome tip. The exhaust is tuned to minimize backpressure, maximize horsepower and provide the Bullitt with its powerful exhaust note.
The interior is understated and features charcoal black leather and satin aluminum trim, with satin aluminum bezels around the air vents and gauges, a satin aluminum shift ball, and aluminum pedals covers. Like the exterior, the interior is graphically clean with only the logo and gun-sight graphic on the center of the leather steering wheel and Bullitt metal sill plates.
The 2008 Ford Mustang Bullitt will be limited to only 7,700 units of which 7,000 will be assigned to Ford dealers in the U.S. and 700 will be assigned to Ford dealers in Canada. Each Bullitt will feature a unique serial number that will run from 0001 to 7700. The Bullitt is expected to appear on the showroom floor during the first quarter of 2008 and will retail at Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of a $31,075.
